THE PRODUCER

The name Borgo Scopeto comes from “scopo”, a plant very much present in the estate and used in the past for the production of brooms. The first mention of Borgo Scopeto, near the village of Vagliagli, dates to 1079, when the Cathedral of Siena built a fortified settlement for the defense of the city. In the XIV century the settlement was assigned to a noble from Siena family, the Sozzini, which transformed it into a flowering farm whose primary products were wine and olive oil. Borgo Scopeto's first bottle of Chianti Classico was produced in 1990. In 1997 the estate was bought by Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini who immediately began the restoration of the hamlet, with the goal of transforming it into one of Tuscany's most beautiful and enticing Relais.
