This ancient and prestigious domain was acquired by Bernard-Massard in 1986. With about 12.5 hectares of vineyards, the Chateau de Schengen is one of Luxembourg’s largest and most important wineries.
The domain is famous for its wines and its location where the Schengen. Agreement was signed in 1985. The wineries’ bottles are distributed under the ‘Château de Schengen’ label which features a drawing of the castle made by Victor Hugo during a visit to the proprietors of the time.
Its vines grow on Luxembourg’s richest soils between Markusberg and Schengen, some of the countries most traditional vineyard. The result: full-bodied, rich and mellow yet vivacious Pinot Blancs and Pinot Gris which have forged the vineyards excellent reputation for decades.
Over time, thanks to new plantations and an expansion of the vineyard towards excellent locations such as the Felsberg in Wintrange, the winery is now able to offer some of the finest Rieslings to be found in the Grand-Duchy.
It should be noted that both, the Clos des Rochers and the Chateau de Schengen, are founding members of the ‘Domaine et Tradition’ Association.
One of our key missions is to ensure that our wines are enjoyed responsibly.
