Domaine 'Thill'
With its 12 hectares of vines, the Domaine 'Thill' in Schengen, which came under the management of Bernard-Massard in 1986, is one of the country's largest wine-growing establishments. The soil, which is the most fertile along the traditional slopes of Markusberg to Schengen, has ensured the reputation of its ample, rich, warm Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris wines for many years.
Thanks to new planting and the extension of the vineyard towards excellent slopes, such as the Felsberg at Wintrange, the estate's repertoire now undoubtedly includes some of the finest Rieslings to be found in the Grand Duchy.
The wines are then vinified, matured and bottled in the modern cellars at the headquarters in Grevenmacher.
The Domaine 'Thill' is a member of the 'Domaine et Tradition' association. Part of its renown comes from the wines sold under the 'Château de Schengen' label, whose motif is a view of the Château that Victor Hugo drew during a visit.
It has also been chosen by the German Bernkasteler Ring, an association of some of the best wine-growers in this region, to represent the Luxembourg Moselle within its ranks.
The Guide Hachette features the Pinot Gris, Château de Schengen, 2002 as a Coup de Coeur (Favourite) in its 2004 edition.
The estate's annual output is around 70,000 bottles.
